An additional $248.9 million for key transport projects over the next four years has been announced by Transport Minister Simon Bridges as part of Budget 2015.
This brings the Government’s total spending on transport in 2015/16 to $4.27 billion, including $3.01 billion from the National Land Transport Fund.
This was comprised of:
Operating initiatives:
- SuperGold Card — public transport concessions for cardholders — $10.2 million in additional funding will be provided in 2015/16, in addition to the $18 million already available
- Transport Accident and Investigation Commission —investigation and reporting – additional operating funding of an initial $1.3 million a year, rising to $1.6 million by 2018/19
- Meteorological Service of New Zealand — weather forecasting — additional operating funding of over $5 million a year by 2018/19
Capital initiatives:
- Wellington Metro Rail Upgrade — $6.5 million over three years
- KiwiRail receives $210 million in 2015/16 and a further $190 million as a pre-commitment against Budget 2016.
